2005-02-22 - 2:19 p.m. I can't believe it. The great man is dead. Hunter S. Thompson, Raoul Duke, Doctor of Gonzo, is gone. I spent most of last night exchanging quotes and stories about this huge influence of mine. I felt, at first, compelled to write a searing, scathing criticism (no, not a criticism, not a critique, not strong enough. Not nearly strong enough!) - an accusation (yes, much better) - a condemnation of a world whose sorry state could drive a man like Thompson to suicide. But really, there was no anger. All I felt was a sense of sadness. Then I realized that he would not have wanted this. Thompson would have wanted us to go out and play shotgun golf.
